General Motors is recalling some of its 2012 models for
steering problems, according to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Over 6,000 vehicles are affected, including the following
models: Chevrolet Express, Suburban, GMC Savana and the Yukon XL.
The steering gear pitman shaft may not have been adequately
hardened and could fracture, the report said. If this were to occur, a loss of
steering could result, which would increase the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect the equipment,
and, if necessary, replace it. The services, which are slated to begin April 4,
will be free of charge.
Customers worried about their vehicle may contact the NHTSAs
vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go
online here.
