Service as important as ever as new normal for cars is 200K miles

As consumers drive their vehicles for closer to 200,000
miles than 100,000, it’s a reminder that service on your vehicle is as
important as ever.

At Leif’s Auto Centers, we have a staff of factory-trained,
ASE-certified technicians that can handle your service needs. We also offer
some of the best prices in the area on a variety of mechanical and service
items.

A recent report
from The New York Times
highlights a growing trend among drivers across the
country:

Cars that have survived for a
million miles or more have been widely documented, of course, but those tend to
be exceptional cases. What’s different, and far more common, today are the
online classified ads offering secondhand Hondas, Toyotas and Volvos with
150,000 or 200,000 miles — or more — not as parts donors but as vehicles with
some useful life left.

The reasons for this trend are plentiful, ranging from
economical to the fact that cars today are simply produced better than they
were 10, 20 or 30 years ago.

Despite the surge in production of hybrids and electric
vehicles, Time
points out that more people are opting for the cheaper standard fuel engines

or, mostly hanging on to their trusty older cars.

A technical leader for Ford told The Times that the
California Air Resources Board and the EPA have been focused on making sure
catalytic converters perform within 96 percent of their original capability at
100,000 miles.

“Materials are much better,” Jagadish Sorab told The Times.
“We have tested our newest breed of EcoBoost engines in our F-150 pickup, for
250,000 miles. When we tear the engines down, we cannot see any evidence of
wear.”

Of course,
what this means for consumers is making sure your car is serviced routinely for
appointments both big—transmission and clutch repair—to small (routine oil and
filter), Leif’s technicians will make sure your car continues to run smoothly.

Claims Advocacy

Large insurance corporations have all the power. As consumers, we can’t stop the insurance abuses without bringing our voices together, and using the power of the media, government and the courts to stop it
