A fire risk is forcing Jeep to
recall nearly 90,000 Wranglers in the US, Canada and elsewhere, MSN
reports.
Of the 87,000 to be recalled, 68,000
were sold in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.
So far, the government has received
reports of 14 reports of fires, but none featuring injuries or fatalities, MSN
said.
At issue is a skid plate that makes
it possible for debris to collect and press against the vehicles catalytic
converter; the heat can then lead to a fire.
The recall effects Wranglers with
automatic transmission built during the 2010 model-year. According to MSNs
report, owners of vehicles produced before July 14, 2010 will receive a notification
in the coming weeks to schedule a free repair with a nearby dealer.
