VW Microbus project: Wheels, taillights and logos

A couple of small updates to Leif’s ambitious custom-designed 1968 Volkswagen Microbus on this chilly Monday in the Pacific Northwest.

When the vehicle is finished, it will sport a state-of-the-art alternative fuel drive train, encompassing the latest in electric motors, lithium-ion batteries, a solar panel on its expansive roof and a natural gas-fired generator to increase the van’s range.

Robert, who has been working on the project for several months, is tinkering with a couple different possibilities for the taillights as he installs both rear bumpers. The ubiquitous VW logo has been picked out and will be installed later this week.

Two wheels adorn the passenger side of the bus, and the set is being considered for the finished product; as is the back seat that currently sits in the rear of the 1968 relic.
