VW Conversion

It’s a 1968 Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter – commonly known as a microbus. The venerable VW Microbus was the vehicle that transported some of the first people to care deeply about pollution and saving the Earth. In the decades since 1968, almost everyone has come around to that way of thinking. So to honor the vehicle that started it all, Leif Hansen has a plan. When this project vehicle is done, the ancient Microbus will sport a state-of-the-art alternative fuel drivetrain, encompassing the latest in electric motors, lithium-ion batteries, solar panels on the expansive roof, and a natural gas-fired generator to increase the van’s range. That’s the good news for the underside of the van. The old Microbus will be taken down to bare metal, repaired to like-new condition, and then built back up into a showpiece of modern technology and style.
