Duo of TVs mounted inside ‘green’ VW project at Leif’s

Another week into Leif’s Volkswagen project and the second flat screen TV is getting installed.

“One on each side,” said Robert, who continues his trek on the expansive undertaking, which is slated to be finished in July, 2012.

Two seats line the rear of the vehicle, with plenty of leg room to stretch out and watch a movie or sporting event in the middle of the bus.

The 1968 VW microbus is getting a full-fledged green treatment, as Leif’s crew started from scratch to build a state-of-the-art alternative fuel drive train, encompassing the latest in electric motors, lithium-ion batteries, solar panels on the expansive roof and a natural-gas fired generator to increase the van’s range, and it also helps power those TVs.

Like the Beetle, the van has received numerous nicknames worldwide, including the microbus, "minibus," and, due to its popularity during the counterculture movement of the 1960s, "hippie van,” according to WIKI.

Robert said one of the most difficult things remaining on the project is the wiring, which takes into account the varying ways the vehicle gets its power.

The hand-formed solar panel is completed and also nearing installation.

Once the motor is installed Robert will start shaping the fiber glass, which will encompass the motor underneath the back of the bus.
