This Portland area dealer repaired Mitsubishi looked good when it was all together, but after we took off the bumper & other parts we found that the rear body panel and left quarter panel had been replaced. Look closer as we did and we'll point out a lot of the common problems we see from our area repairers. Although some are only cosmetic, others make us wonder how they may hold up in subiquent accidents. |

This is the right rear frame rail end. The welds here are very important for holding the rear of the vehicle together. As you can see they are already rusting away, and were not fully welded. All welds must be fully plugged / filled to archive the proper strength. It is also very important that the base panel is not ground down when grinding down the welds. Both these rules have been broke in this picture |

Heres the left rear rail.. no better looking than the right. All these welds are ready to leak and rust. |

This is the upper body side panel where they joined the new quarter panel to the old side panel. There should only be one weld here and this weld should not be visible, and if you look close you can see the gaps in the bondo they used as well as the splattered paint. |

As you can see in this picture the vent was installed then painted. Why would anyone do this? |

Can you tell this part was removed for repairs? What gave it away? Could it be the bent up edges? |

It is common for insurance companies to deny the addition prep work required when panels are welded on vehicles (times are based on new undamaged vehicles). This is what painted over welds look like from the backside. Looking further ... they didn't even paint the whole backside of the panel. |

There's the opposite side. They must have gone back a few times for water leaks.. but look in the next pics for probable causes. |

Here they resealed over the pain job but still missed the holes in the welds. It only takes a very small hole to leak lots of water into a vehicle If you look at the bottom arrow, you'll see the paint job is just pealing off the new panel. |

Heres the burnt paint again. one of the tell tale signs of panel replacement. Don't you think this should be fixed to be a "pre-loss" repair? This whole edge is like this. |
